Texas Collie Rescue Matt Texas Collie Rescue Matt

My name is Matt and I came to Texas from Arkansas on July 3rd. I am here with my little sister, Maddie. I really love her alot and want to take care of her like I have done ever since we were born about 18 months ago. We had to live outside with no shelter ever since we were real little so being in a real house is quite a change for us. We need a heart worm test and get checked out good. Depending on the outcome of the heart worm test we should be able to go to our forever home soon. The doctor is going to neuter me tomorrow, Tuesday, what ever that means. I guess I will find out then. My foster parents need to take some pictures of us even if we did have to have all of our pretty hair shaved off - but it'll grow back.
I got home from the vet and I weigh 49 lbs. and have heart worms. I did get neutered so after I recover from that I will start my heart worm treatment. I started my heart worm treatment on July 21 and I really don't feel very good. I have to stay at my vet so he can get me well because I am very sick and he is very concerned about me. Please send your prayers to me so I can get better and recover from these heart worms. I am so sick that I have been moved to Texas A&M Small Animal Clinic where I am in the ICU and the Isolation Unit. I really do want to get better and live but they say I am really really sick and have a severe case of heart worm disease and maybe even Distemper. All of the doctors and nurses are so nice to me and don't want me to give up, so I am better than I was when I got here last Thursday, July 30. I need your prayers a lot so I can get better and live the kind of life I deserve. After all I'm only 18 months old and want to get my forever home with lots of love and attention for a long time.

Today is Aug 15 and I have been at Texas A&M for 2 weeks and 3 days and after a lot of days of not improving I have started to get better and they think I may be alright after all. I'm still not 100% better but I seem to be improving and the doctors, nurses, and my foster parents are finally doing a 'happy dance'. These heart worms are my biggest problem since I have lots of them. I get to go home on Aug. 18, 2009.

Update: With a very sad heart I must say that little Matt went to Rainbow Bridge at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2009. He had developed severe neurological problems and couldn't hardly walk or stand. It was most likely due to a blood clot in his brain from the heart worms. You were only with us a very short time but our love grew into a mountain of love for you. We will always love you and will miss you sweet little Matt. You tried so hard to get better and were such a little trooper. Good night sweet Matt.

Hi there, my name is Max although it really isn't my real name, but since I can't tell anyone what my name really is I guess I'll just have to get used to being called Max. I am about 8 or 9 years old and I get along pretty good for a senior citizen. I'm a mahogany sable and white rough collie boy. I'm at the vet right now for a good check up, shots, heart worm test, and wouldn't you know, they think I need to be "fixed" - that will be a bad experience I'm sure. After I recover from being neutered and providing I don't have any of those bad bad heart worms I will be ready to go to my forever home. I just got rescued on Friday, July 3rd from a Kill Shelter in northern Arkansas. My temporary foster home has a lot of collies just like me and I really don't like them very well. They are all younger than I am and really don't give me the respect that I should have for my age. I really would rather be the only dog in the house so I can get all of the attention and not have a bunch of young wipper-snappers jumping on me and bothering me. I really like the humans I am living with and would make someone a great companion. I'm just looking for love and a family that really cares about me.
I got home from the vet last night and outside of getting neutered I had a good vet visit. I do not have heart worms which I'm sooo happy about and I weigh 61 lbs. As soon as I recover from my surgery I can go to my forever home. Don't you want to give me a good home and love - I really appreciate being petted and getting attention.

Update: I am a very sweet, quiet, gentle, and handsome rough collie. I am a laid back kind of guy who enjoys walks, car rides, and taking short naps. I love being with people and getting affection. I am looking for a forever home with kind and gentle people who really appreciate how special I am! I would be better in a home without dogs or small children. However, I get along with cats. If you're looking for a more mature and quiet collie who would make a great companion, then I'm your guy!

UPDATE: I went to my forever home on 9/10/09 and am living in San Antonio with just a Mom and Dad. I am the only pet they have so I bet I am going to be treated like a "King". They are really nice to me and I like them a lot. I'm so happy that they found me and have given me a great forever home. I really enjoyed living with my foster parents and their two boys and I will miss them. I wish I could tell them "thank you for taking such good care of me". They were sad to see me go, but they are happy for me too.

Update 2/16/2010: With a heavy heart I must say I received a very bad call from the very loving and caring Mom and Dad of Max telling me that Max suddenly got very sick and within two weeks after having a good vet checkup developed Lymphoma that was very aggressive and beyond any treatment. Sorry to say he want to Rainbow Bridge. He was so loved for the short time he was in his forever home and gave so much love in return. Max will be greatly missed but will never be forgotten. He took a piece of several of our hearts. Good bye sweet beautiful collie boy - you were loved by many.
