Many of the Collies and Shelties that come into our rescue have been neglected or abused. Others have simply been abandoned by their owners. We often do not know their past and many of the dogs below come to us with very little training. Despite their past, rescue Collies and Shelties are incredibly forgiving and very eager to please. They have so much to give and are all very special. We are looking for forever homes and permanent families who will love their new addition unconditionally and give them the love and support they need and deserve for the rest of their lives.
Adoption Fees: Please note that these adoption fees help to defray our program expenses for rehabilitating your dog and to help the next rescue Collie or Sheltie, there will be a $350.00 donation for an adult over 12 months through 9 years and $375.00 for a puppy up to and including 12 months, and $250.00 for dogs age 10 years and older? This is payable immediately by check, cash, or money order upon adoption and delivery of the adopted dog.
Am I eligible to Adopt?
Please see this list of requirements for those looking to adopt:
I. Applicants must have never been convicted of any animal abuse laws.
II. All potential adopters must completely fill out and agree to the adoption application and the information must be verified and approved by a Texas Collie Rescue Director.
III. All applicants who live in a rental property must provide a signed letter of approval from their landlord giving permission to house a Collie or Sheltie.
IV. All adopting individuals must be at least 21 years of age.
V. Applicants must allow a TCR Representative visit your home to approve that your home and yard is adquate enough to house a Collie or Sheltie.
VI. Applicants must be willing to keep their Collie or Sheltie dog indoors, especially in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
VII. Applicants must be willing to feed a high quality food and provide proper nutrition to a Collie or Sheltie.
VIII. All dogs placed by TCR will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated for distemper/parvo, rabies, and bordetella, and heartworm tested. New owners will receive copies of all available vet information and must agree to keep them current on all of the above.
IX. Texas Collie Rescue does not permit the use of shock or electronic collars, including invisible fence prong collars. The reason for our policy is that invisible fences are not sufficient enough to contain or manage the behavior of Collies and Shelties. Shock collars can elicit and/or contribute to aggressive behaviors as well.
X. In the event an adoption does not work out, applicants must agree to return the dog to Texas Collie Rescue rather than rehoming the dog themselves.
